The community of Applewood Park is situated on the extreme east edge of Calgary. It is approximately 10 kilometres east of downtown Calgary via either 17th Avenue S.E.or Memorial Drive. The Canadian National Railway (C.N.R.) right-of-way separates Applewood Park from the community of Applewood Park from the community of Abbeydale to the north, and establishes the northern boundary of Applewood Park. The east boundary coincides with the east boundary for the City of Calgary, the south boundary is 17th Avenue S.E., and the west boundary is 68th Street. The Applewood Park area was annexed to Calgary in 1979 and described as a continuation of the general pattern of low density residential development in east Calgary.
The Applewood Park Community Association was incorporated on April 4th, 1986. Many past presidents to name a few such as Patsy Adam, Gilles Talbot, John Wakoluk, Susan White, Sheila Vink, Brad Bayley, Bob Osselton and Bob Bow. They have all shared a vision to build a Center for the residents of Applewood. After all these years, we will finally have a Recreation Park.
The Applewood Park Community is committed to improving neighborhood life, having organized and hosting several community related activities over the past several years. Some of those events included parades, family BBQ's, children's Easter egg hunt, haunted house, coloring contest, Christmas Lights Contest and many more. The community organized a Memorial Bench Dedication for two small children who perished in a house fire.
The Applewood Park Community Association has worked with the City of Calgary over the last few years to identify a plan to redevelop the community park. Our mandate is to provide the residents of Applewood Park and surrounding communities with year-round outdoor multi-use activities and opportunities, encouraging families and individuals to be more active and socialize.
Without all of our volunteers whether it is casino, newsletter carriers, special events, membership sale, we really don't think any of this would even be possible. The key to success rests in the people like you, who embody the spirit of greatness by saying, "Yes I can, and so can you". We want to thank you for your dedication and for being there from the start. Words cannot convey our gratitude for your tremendous dedication.-Author Unknown-
